Meet The Team Hammers Clash Royale

Spencer "Swood" Wood

I am a 18 year old 2nd year university student studying business, I have been involved in the competitive scene since the beginning, the competitive clash of clans scene were what made up the 1st season of RPL so being as that was the group of people I was hanging around at the start of the game I got involved with leagues and pro players that way, since then I have been involved in the Takeover and Mastery.gg organizations before joining Hollywood Hammers.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I was a clash of clans player and had IRL friends plus clash of clans friends both nagging me to get Clash Royale, I was planning not to play it but after I heard about it every day for a couple weeks both at school and at home I finally caved. This was back in the beta as I live in Canada

  • What's your favorite card and why?

My favorite card would have to be the ice spirit, I feel that it is a high skill cap card that can really show the difference between an average player and a top-level player with how effective their ice spirits are

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

If I could add one card to the game it would be the 0 elixir 1 lava pup that the developers talked about in a Q&A. It would be an amazing cycle card (which are some of the most valuable support cards in the game) that would require an answer behind a miner/tank and would eliminate some bad starting hands since you have a 0 elixir cycle card to your next card

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

I would add a dragon card like the one in COC

  • What's your favorite card and why?

My favorite card is RG because he’s got a lit beard and takes a lot of skill to play.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

Started playing by seeing the ads for CR while I was playing COC. I started playing CR about a year after it released and spent all of my time in Donut Shop until joining hammers.

Hi I'm Backstabx

I started playing Clash Royale in February 2016. I remember always competing in streamer bracket tournaments even though I didn't have all the cards. Soon after, Hammers announced a live tournament. I drove all the way from LA to Las Vegas to compete in the first community Clash Royale live event. I was pretty nervous but also confident. I ended up defeating all my opponents and winning the prize! Shortly after, I was picked up by Hammers Esports.

I then began my Pro career and entered every tournament I could. Always striving to be the best i could. With that mindset, I battled through the Clash Royale North American Open becoming the first ever Champion of North America. Ever since, Hammers has been known as a top clan and has formed more champions along the way. Currently, I'm now a full time streamer, Coach, Captain, and even more so, a mentor to my fellow teammates.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I started playing when my best friend got into it and introduced it to me

  • What's your favorite card and why?

Favorite card is princess because she's hot.. Bandit is a close second

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

If i could add a card to the game id add myself and wreck everyone Kappa

I started playing competitive when i was in Altar Of Elites(AshClashYTs) clan but when he took a break from the game, i still wanted to play competitive so i joined Hammer Esports with my good friends Ox & Jonny. I was always playing in brackets and winning so i felt like i was good enough for hammers. When I joined, I was put in leagues like CRL/RPL. RPL was what “changed” my career because that's when hammers needed me most and all the practice paid off when i clutched a set for hammers allowing us to go into the playoffs! My performance shocked many in hammers but landed me a spot in Team Mexico Tryouts where I beat out 2 thousand other players in two 1000 man tournaments, then a round robin, then a bo3 bracket where i took home 1st place and got a spot on Team Mexico for CR worlds.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I was a huge fan of Clash of Clans another supercell game and when they promoted Clash Royale in game I had to give it a try, I also always watched AshClashYT; seeing him play Clash Royale really made me want to download the game even more

  • What's your favorite card and why?

My favorite card is knight because for 3 elixir it is a very versatile card. You can use it as a tank, for example you can use it as a support distracter from a incoming enemy push while your support killer (Minions,Goblins,Mega minion) can kill the enemy’s push while its distracted on the support distractor(Knight). You can also counter push with it for example putting a hog behind it/ a miner forcing your opponent to respond to your counter push

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

In the current state of the game I wouldn’t add any new cards as i feel like it would make the game more RPS, instead i would want them to nerf or remove elixir collector, the reason for that is because it can give you a unfair advantage in the start of the game, for example if your opponent has elixir collector at the start and you have your spell last in rotation your opponent would have a elixir lead because of the pump not being addressed do to luck in the starting hand

I’m the kind of person who made his girlfriend download the game. She named her account babeyoumademe. I am a former member of the mastery.gg pro team and have been playing the game since beta.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I played boom beach for the longest time, there were a few YouTubers who I enjoyed watching at the time and when Clash came out they all tried it, suffusive to say, the rest is history.

  • What's your favorite card and why?

Clone spell. Nothing is more satisfying than cloning a 16 elixir+ push and just having a million troops on the field

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

It'd be a card called blink. 2 elixir, you tap on any troop to use it and when played transfers the unit back to where it originally spawned.

Jackson "JuicyJ" Wahl

My name is Jackson Joseph Wahl. Which is where the name JuicyJ comes from (not the rapper). I live in Nebraska, and I play club soccer for CSA. I’ve always been a competitive type of person. I don’t like to just play a game for fun, I have fun when I win, when I’m the best that I can be. That’s why I’m here, I’m here at Hammers so that I can learn and get better and more importantly win.

  • What is your favorite card and why?

My favorite card is probably hog rider. I’ve always loved the hog rider since the hog freeze and hog poison meta way back at the beginning of the game. I really like it because It’s a card that requires a lot of focus and skill because it is primarily played in cycle decks.

  • if you could add one card to the game what would that card be?

If I could add a card to the game I would add the wizard tower from clash of clans. I would add this card because we have legendary troops and a legendary spell but we have yet to see a legendary building.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I started playing with my friends on the day of the soft launch. We stayed over at my friends house and we played almost all night long. I instantly fell in love with the strategy and competitiveness of the game. The first clan I joined was called #BLUENATION which is still up and running as a casual ladder clan today. I moved to AK gaming from there as they were higher in ladder and I wanted to play in a more competitive place. From AK Gaming I was recruited by Hunter to be a part of a small competitive clan called the Influence. I was a late bloomer when It came to the competitive side of CR. By this time 15ks were going on, but I wasn’t to the point where I was good enough to place very high. As I improved and got better I started placing high in bracket tournaments on twitch. One of the ones I distinctly remember winning was a bracket hosted by Gendrago Gaming, I was so hyped to have won such a little tournament only worth $10. What happened next in My CR career would shape everything that has happened to me so far. Over a week long tournament I was able to push up to the top of the Reddit 100k Sub Tournament. I beat many Pros (some of which I didn’t even know where pros at the time). I won every match until my last match where I Ironically lost to Kennan who was with Hollywood Hammers. From there Saint Belikin referred me to 50 kings and I was featured on my first CWA video. In 50 kings not a lot got done so I decided to leave and return to the person who got me into the competitive scene in the first place. I joined RaZe eSports who was lead by Hunter. This brings me to probably my best competitive accomplishment. While I was in RaZe eSports I achieved the Record of 8-0 and was announced as a RPL MVP. This brought a lot of attention from other clans.
After RPL was over RaZe fell apart which brings me to about where I am now. I am now playing for Hollywood Hammers. For the short time I’ve been here I have already noticed how organized and how good the people are here. I know we are going to accomplish amazing things in the future.

Kevin "El Jefe" Cara

My name is Kevin Jason Cara. I am 22 years old and I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I originally started playing clash Royale around May of 2016, I got introduced to it by my brother who also played Clash of clans. It took him forever to convince me to start playing it, but once I did I was immediately addicted. My original deck was giant double minions with goblin barrel ( it cost 4 elixir and dealt damage on impact at the time ) and poison, it was completely off meta at the time and poison was never used. Once I hit 2k I started to use the Royale Giant and I still use him on ladder today. I joined Phonecats and made a name for myself by interacting with clash streamers and winning some of their brackets, draft royales and 1000 man tournaments. I never expected to go pro until I played in the first CCGS. In my first 1000 man to qualify for the CCGS, I came first and didn't even lose a game. I made mistake by not doing research and thought I could only register for one day in the bracket phase.

In the bracket phase, I got DQ'd after beating my 2-0 my first opponent because I failed to post the results on the Smash GG site. I have never been more frustrated in my life, but in the next round of CCGS, I made sure to do research and not get disqualified again. After getting 20 wins in the first phase I made sure to register for every day possible and prepared 3 decks that I was extremely comfortable with, those decks were: Splashyard with log instead of bats/goblins, Bowler control with furnace, mirror, bats, bowler, arrows, goblin barrel, goblin gang, and rocket, and a deck I made with cannon cart gy which at the time was off meta because GY just had the big nerf and Cannon cart was considered one of the worst cards in the game. My first day of the bracket phase I got 2-0d by a 4k player in the first match of the day. I lost all confidence and was extremely disappointed in myself, I didn't even get outplayed I just played horribly, I remember missing a tornado and let a mini pekka get to my tower. Day 2 I actually qualified for the 3rd phase by beating Razor in the finals with my Cannon cart deck. Unfortunately, I didn't get further than that because I was eliminated in Phase 3 by Colton even after sweeping Batman. Even though I didn't qualify for Phase 4 I was proud of myself and NGE even flew me out to L.A. where I hung out with the top players and eventually met Backstab. While at the studio I did an interview with BBXH and it was on the live broadcast on the official Clash Royale channel. During the games Backstab randomly showed up and we started talking and he asked if I was interested in joining Hammers Esports and I obviously said yes, I thought he was just being nice to me and I didn't think he was actually interested until I got back home and he messaged me on Twitter, and now here I am on the Hammers Esports pro team. My next big tournament will be kings cup October 28th, 2017.

  • What is your favorite card and why?

My favorite card is the Cannon cart because it is the perfect support troop for graveyard, and graveyard has been my deck archetype since it came out.

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

A card I would put in the game would be a legendary building preferably a spawner, something that spawns air troops like minions, bats, or mega minions.

I started really playing competitively in Clout Stars, and more and more I got involved with tournaments and realized there's a whole other side of this game that I've been missing. Since then I've won over 150k cards on my own account, performed well in ESL bracket tournaments and numerous Plexchat events, and placed high in CCGS qualifier brackets (4th, 2nd) although my home comp clan is Clout Stars and Gaming I was moving around a lot, until I had been invited by FullFrontage to join the Hammers comp team in July, which led to where I am now. Besides this game I enjoy drawing, running, and sometimes reading.

  • If you could add one card to the game what would the card be?

I'd add a 5 elixir air troop that did area damage around itself similar to valkyrie, but also targeted ground troops. It's weakness would be low hp and attack speed, but it's strength would be countering swarms of low hp troops, and also graveyard

  • What's your favorite card and why?

I've always loved the miner because of how tactical you had to play him to win and how he could complete so many different tasks.

  • How did you start playing Clash Royale?

I started playing this game when I switched schools, right about at the start of global launch. I had made a friend named Gabe who I'd compete against at around 1500 trophies and that's what kept my motivation going, I eventually left my school's clan though to pursue more competitive ones though and the rest is history.
